FAKER FAMILY SCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAM
DRIVES STUDENTS TO THINK SAFETY

“Faker Family Comes To Town” is a powerful outreach program touring Houston area intermediate schools to emotionally imprint the serious consequences of driving safety before students get behind the wheel.  One teenager dies every hour in the United States alone due to a teen-related driving accident.  The “Live Safe; Don’t Fake Safety” message is designed to give teens the tools to make decisions with a safety mindset. It is developed, written, produced and starred in by the safety professionals at Houston based The Compliance Alliance (TCA), an internationally recognized safety services firm.

The one-hour skit initially addresses seasonal safety issues in a light, comedic presentation to introduce the stars of the Faker Family. Ima Faker portrays the mother, Ura Faker is the dad, Frick’in Faker is the teen son, and L’il Faker is the teen daughter. Jim Bob and Jim Bob, (twins who, instead of being named Jim and Bob, respectively, both ended up as Jim Bob due to a hospital error) represent this not-so-typical family unit which students find hysterical as they relate Faker family members to people they may know. The second portion of the program converges into a serious look at driving safety and includes 6 ½ minutes of streaming video of Cory, the 14-year old stepson of a TCA partner, who went through a windshield at 70 mph earlier this year. Students are emotionally impacted, and empowered to realize that it’s not “uncool” to be safe. An interactive, hands on mini-workshop with Fatal Vision goggles follows and the program closes with the powerful poem “I went to a Party Mom”. The poem is written from the perspective of an anonymous youth who did everything right---goes to a party, drinks Sprite and not alcohol, and heads home alone in her car, sober and safe until… a drunk teen driver from the party crashes into her. The poem reflects her dying thoughts and leaves neither teachers nor students with a dry eye in the house.

The outreach program is paid for by proceeds from the American's Take Charge website www.americanstakecharge.com, a site designed by TCA safety professionals.  The site, in both English and Spanish, includes hundreds of pages and thousands of safety topics available year-round for less than ten dollars a year.  The most comprehensive safety website available to the Internet public, its topics include how to respond to a grease fire, prepare a 72-hour survival kit for weather and other emergencies, what to do "before it's gone", tips for the elderly, preventing child kidnappings, rape or identity theft, recalled toys, home alone and travel tips, or dealing with an act of terror and many more.  Tagged, "an amazing internet community" it is sponsored by safety professionals who are on "email call" around the clock to answer questions on about safety.  ATC saves time and money by having the most credible safety resources under one "Internet roof", but more importantly, it informs and empowers students and families to know what to do for safety ahead of time, before it's too late.  For more information on the "Faker Family Comes to Town" or to schedule a free program in your school, go to www.americanstakecharge.com or call 713.263.7661.
